With the government covering for businesses that they helped into a crisis, our nation is buying out businesses with our tax dollars. Many see this as good. I see it as a bad road to travel down. Socialism has begun its take over of the United States of America. We are well on our way to being, in effect, the Union of American Socialist States. All this as we pretend to be pushing "democracy" around the world.
In fact, Iraq may be more democratic than the United States at this point.
Was the bailout (bailouts) a good idea? And why are people not going to prison for this disaster? Is it because Congress is complicit in the ruination of our financial foundations? Barney Frank? The Fed's Alan Greenspan? Clinton? Bush? Barak Obama? Joe Biden? CEOs?
There should be a major outrage over this. Where is the outrage? The US government is talking about giving $700,000,000,000 to bail out CROOKS! Crooks and weasels! That is about $2,300 per person in the United States. That means $9,200 from my family alone. Yeah, I can afford that.
Maybe Congress and the President should step down and let honest people in too run the country. That would exclude McCain, Biden and Obama.

It truly is astounding, and it makes me angry every time I think about it. Much of this came about for several reasons:
a) the greed of the American consumer who believes they "deserve" to have whatever they want
b) the banks, agents, and brokers who pushed people into deals they could not afford and were dishonest and unethical in how they funded these deals
c) the gullibility of those who think that fortune should come easy and with little effort (by this I mean the "house flippers" who buy a home for 240K, slap some paint on it and sell it for 350K).
Unfortunately, Pete, I think that if we don't do something, the repercussions on all of us, including those of us who lived within our means, would be on par the Great Depression. Warren Buffet calls this the "economic Pearl Harbor" of our day.
We're backed into a corner, it seems, even though I'd prefer we let these crooks sink with their ship.
