Tuesday Morning Notes 12.16.2008

"The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." (Acts 17.30-31 ESV)
Today Boyd and I left for a different section of Brooksville for our evangelism work. We covered two streets and had several good conversations and some less than pleasant interactions. First the unpleasant.

One gentleman opened the door, saw us, and closed the door. He did not say a word. He did not accept a tract. Just closed the door. Another gentleman came out of his door in his pajamas, took the tract and went back in without saying anything. These were unwelcoming, but the saddest were two others. The first was a lady who was dedicated to Romanism. She spouted how she believed all religions were good, and how she believed in "Jesus, Mary and Joseph" and "the holy catholic church." She even mentioned her belief in "the holy eucharist." She rejected the Gospel, and like the holiness cultists of last week was unwilling to hear the Gospel of Christ.

The second of the sad interactions was with a man who was cutting a lawn. He received a tract, and as we spoke briefly, he admitted that he was not saved and that he still hoped to go to heaven. He left saying that he did not want to be saved "right now." May God use the tract to speak to this man's heart.

Now for the good conversations. We spoke with several Christians during our efforts today. One house had a lady and her mother who are both Christians. At first the younger, Sharon, answered the door and told me to "save it" in reference to the tract. She then explained that she was a Christian and so is her mother. We spoke with them, encouraging and being encouraged for a few minutes.

As we continued on, we spoke with a lady named Drema whose husband has cirrosis. They are Christians and the husband was a minster. The odd thing is that he has cirrosis, but did not drink alcohol. We prayed with Drema for her and her husband. We also encouraged her with Scripture.

Finally, we met a lady named Erika. She was open to speaking with us and obviously being convicted by the Holy Spirit. She was a bit hesitant about receiving Jesus because she did not want to be a hypocrite. As we ministered to her, she opened up somewhat and did receive Jesus. Erika told us that her children go to Anchor Baptist on the bus (they have a bus ministry). She also said that she was just at the local college to apply and was turned away because she did not have the paperwork she needed. Until we came she was discouraged and I told her that God sent us to her at that moment for His own reason as a part of His own plan. Please, saints of God, pray for this new sister in Christ and her five children.

I would ask any Christians who read this to remember to pray for our Brooksville evangelism on Tuesday mornings. I know there are people who have been, I can see the results. I also ask for prayer for my dear brother Rand who evangelizes in his city on Friday nights (see his blog: A Form of Sound Words).
